The ongoing Navigator has been around in one form or another for more than a decade and despite that, it still offers a great ride quality and a lot of utility for a luxury SUV. However, the model is old and a replacement has been in the works for a while. The first time the new model has been shown was with the 2018 Lincoln Navigator Concept which was first showcased a few months ago. This luxury SUV is quite a bit more different than the ongoing model but it is an improvement in pretty much all the important areas of the car.

Unfortunately, like with most other concept cars, the production version is definitely not going to be the same as the concept. Lincoln did say that some of the features showcased on it will be carried over to the production model but so far they didn’t say which features. It is safe to assume though that the car’s general look, as well as most of the running gear and powertrain, are also going to be found on the future Navigator but its rather futuristic interior will not see a production which is a shame because the concept was truly a unique experience.

2018 Lincoln Navigator Price

The price is unlikely going to change so expect to pay more than $60,000 for a base model of the Navigator. This time around Ford might also release an extended wheelbase model which will directly compete with the Escalade EL at a smaller price.

Design

2018 Lincoln Navigator Concept

Lincoln managed to impress everyone when they released the Navigator concept because it offered one of a unique door-opening mechanism out there. There are only two doors which open up to show the two rows of seats and a massive set of motorized stairs. The production 2018 Lincoln Navigator is definitely going to employ normal doors but the EL version of the car has been rumored to get longer and possibly “suicide” doors which would make it a really interesting choice for anyone looking to get noticed. On top of that, instead of the motorized stairs, the car will likely get electric running boards as standard.

Lincoln Navigator Interior

The futuristic interior of the concept will be replaced by Lincoln’s finest features and accessories and even though it still is under wraps if we take a close look at the Continental we can safely say that the Navigator will get a very similar treatment. The car will likely feature a similar dashboard, the highly modular electric front seats with a massage system installed as standard, triple-zone automatic climate control and all the usual safety features of a car in its class.

2018 Lincoln Navigator Specs

Powering the massive 2018 Lincoln Navigator will likely be a new 3.5 liter twin-turbocharged V6 which despite having the same displacement as before, it should now make around 450 horsepower and more than 450 lb-ft of torque, being the same basic engine as in the Raptor. The transmission of choice for the car will be Ford’s 10-speed automatic which will drive either the rear or all wheels.
The utility part of the Navigator is not going to be overshadowed by its luxury features and thanks to the fact it will be built mostly out of aluminum and high-strength steel, the car should now be able to tow in excess of 10,000 pounds in either RWD or AWD form. The performance will be improved tremendously as well and thanks to cylinder deactivation and a 500 to 1,000 pounds lower weight, the new Navigator should be a lot more efficient as well. Later down the road, Lincoln might also install a hybrid powertrain but so far there aren’t any details about this except the fact that it will use a V6 rather than a smaller inline 4 petrol engine.
